RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND TEACHER JOB COMMITMENT IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ENUGU STATE

Abstract

This research examines the relationship between availability of instructional materials and teacher job commitment in public secondary schools in Enugu State. One research question and one hypothesis in line with purpose of the study. The study adopted correlational research method.  A total of 420 teachers in ten public secondary schools in Enugu State were randomly selected and surveyed through a structured questionnaire. The descriptive statistics used for data analysis was the mean and standard deviation. The results of the study revealed that teachers had a moderate level of job commitment. The findings from the study also revealed that the instructional materials available in public secondary schools in Enugu State were primarily textbooks, and teacher-generated materials and props. The study also revealed that there was a significant relationship between the availability of instructional materials and teacher job commitment, with teachers who had access to instructional materials showing higher levels of job commitment. The study recommendations that government should improve in the provision of instructional materials in public secondary schools. It will offer stakeholders, including government officials, a deeper understanding of the relationship between the two variables. The results of the study have implications for teacher motivation and retention in public secondary schools in Enugu State.
